Lots of car events last weekend. First the Shmeeting in Amsterdam, then later that Friday the introduction of the new Porsche Macan at the Porsche dealership (won’t bother you with that one ๐ ) and then on Saturday the 2014 edition of the Spring Event.
The Spring Event (or should I say SprinT Event?)
The Spring Event takes place at Weeze Airport in Germany, and is mostly about super car sprints, that is, drag races between two cars on a landing strip. Frankly, I find those sprints stupid and boring. Not fun to do, not fun to watch (if you’ve seen 3 sprints, you’ve seen ’em all).
When we attended Spring Event last year, the most fun we had was on our way there, driving along with lots of super cars, and on our way back. Oh, and I spent half an hour trying to drift my V12 Vantage, that was fun too.
But we decided to try again this year, driving to the event in a large convoy of super cars, starting at JD Customs. And the same thing happened. We enjoyed the way there and had fun on the Autobahn on the way back. To my surprise, now the *entire* day was about the sprints. I didn’t even bother joining in, just spent some time drifting in the V12 Vantage.
In the end, we left early. Probably won’t go next year. I’d rather spend the day driving a nice route.
